Brandrams Housing Co-op, South-east London
Brandrams Housing Co-operative Ltd was formed in 1979. The building, completed in 1987 accommodates of 24 self-contained units and up to 28 units in shared flats in the London Borough of Southwark.
Aims
The aims of Brandrams Co-op are:
- To provide secure housing of an acceptable standard for single people and childless couples aged 18 and over, irrespective of sex, race and disability, forming a diverse community with every respect for the equality of opportunity in housing provisions.
- To provide housing for people who are of a low income and are unable to find affordable alternatives and would ordinarily be on Southwark Borough Housing List.
- To maintain the structural and infrastructure condition of all Co-op properties for the benefit of the members, using the revenue collected from low rent.
- To be largely self-administering, self-maintaining and democratically run by the members of the Co-op and to encourage maximum participation by all members.
Eligibility
In line with the aims of the Co-op the criteria for application are:
- Single people and childless couples aged 18 and over. (The accommodation in Brandrams Co-op is not suitable for families).
- From a low income group.
- Currently living/working in Southwark and eligible to apply for the Southwark Borough Housing List.
- Willing and able to participate in the running of the Co-op.
Accommodation Available
Please note that only shared accommodation in 2-bed, 3-bed and 4-bed flats is available through direct application. Self-contained units, when vacancies arise, are offered on an alternating basis to existing members in shared flats and Southwark Borough Housing. There is currently a long waiting list for self-contained units.
Application Procedure
- Please write a letter to the address below, requesting an application form.
- If you meet the eligibility criteria, you will be invited to attend a First Interview with the Membership Committee.
- Following a successful First Interview, your application form will be passed on to members in shared flats with vacancies, who will arrange an interview with you for the vacancy in that particular flat.
Please note that our waiting list is quite long and we only occasionally have vacancies. You are welcome to apply to the co-op, but if we do accept you on to our waiting list, it could be some time before we are able to offer you accommodation.
